Night Blooming Cereus
My Garden - 2013
In June of 2013 my night blooming cereus bloomed. It last bloomed in September of 2012. Then again it set buds and bloomed in August. As fall sets in it is setting another two buds but they will probably not survive the moved back into the house before frost hits in a few weeks. Below are shots of the plant during both blooms. First images are taken in my Florida room before the plant was moved out for the summer. The second set was taken outdoors.
Did I say we experimented with lighting? It's a beautiful flower (slightly ugly plant) with a strong perfume. Sadly when it blooms it's at night. It seems to reach full bloom nearing 11 pm and the buds are done and drooping by sunrise the next morning.
It's still a freaky looking plant. Still reminds me of the plant in "Little Shop of Horrors" or maybe the plant-thing in "Men in Black". What do you think?
