Linda and I
embarked on our first true adventure since the Covid virus struck. The last trip
around the southern portion of South America ended just as Covid was breaking
out around the world. In fact, about 3 weeks after we returned from that trip
the world literally shut down.
This adventure began with flights on July 18, 2022 from Columbus to Athens via
Chicago. Everything was mostly on time and uneventful. It was just a terribly
long flight from Chicago at just about 9.5 hours. While we were transported in
cattle car fashion, we survived the long trek. And when we arrived in Athens so
did our luggage. We were blessed with being able to get a room upon arrival at
our hotel, the Athens Marriott at about 10:00 am. We rested a bit, got a nice
lunch then headed out for a walk around the neighborhood.
The next day we had a very nice breakfast then waited again until our
transportation arrived in the early afternoon. We arrived at the port of Piraeus
and showed our vaccination card, and proof of negative Covid test, both of which
were required for entry to the ship. We were checked onboard and in our room by
about 3pm. And our luggage also followed as expected.
The ship de[arted about 6:30 pm and headed for our first stop in Mykonos. From
there we visited a number of Greek islands: Paros, Patmos, Santorini, Crete,
Rhodes, and Kos. Then we went to Kusadasi, Turkey and ended our trip with an
overnight stay in Istanbul, Turkey.
We left Istanbul for home on Saturday, July 30. We arrived home on Sunday, July
31, 2022 after an unexpected overnight in London. Seems out flight from Istanbul
to London was delayed enough that we missed our connection to Newark. A very
nice United Airlines agent rebooked us with guaranteed seats on a flight from
London Heathrow Airport to Houston, Texas and subsequently to Columbus the next
morning. The agent also gave us a room at the local Radisson that also included
transportation and some food. Needless to say, our return flight was probably
the most adventure filled flight we’ve had in a while. But in the end it all
worked out very nice.
Now let’s get on to some of the images I made over these two weeks. Take your
time and enjoy our trip through these images.
